Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 children from a poor family children who would grow up in the same household, figured out very early how to get out of the difficulties she faced through her vibrant and imaginative imagination. Before she learned to read and write she began to compose her own music. After getting her first instrument at age of 8, she began performing on radio stations in Knoxville, Tennessee. The that same time, Gold Band Records was a tiny independent record label. She made a name in the local scene while in high school, however she dreamed of a bigger stage. After graduating from high school in 1964 she moved straight to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) and Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner began looking for women to sing for his TV show syndicated by a network at about the same at the same time. Parton took the job in the year 1966. She was signed to RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in the year 1969. She quit Wagoner's act in 1974 when her solo singles such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton recorded I Will Always love You for Wagoner in the aftermath of their breakup. It reached number one. 1. for the first time in 1974.
